CAPITOL QUARTER
MIDGET RACING ASSOCATION
TRACK HISTORY
Our
Club was started by eight men, who held their first meeting in the basement of
the State Journal Building in late Fall of 1957. This meeting came about
because of the interest and effort of Stan Latunski, who having see 1/4 Midgets
in California, had his brother send him one from there. Stan's was the 1st
1/4 Midget in Lansing. The first race was held in 1959 on a dirt track,
which was changed to asphalt in 1960.
Stan Latunski was an extremely active member who
had an unsatisfiable desire to learn everything about this sport. He could
do fantastic things to an engine.
Because he was highly thought of, the members of
"his" Club honored his memory by dedicating races to him.
Stan was a quiet man, who loved
this sport; the friendly competition; was caught up in the excitement of the
drivers who did well and shared in the disappointment of those who did not ---
and his "we'll do better next time" attitude, was contagious to many.
Thoughts of a friend.
THE SPORT
The purpose of this Association is to create
and to maintain a clean, safe, healthy sport, which maybe enjoyed by
Father, Mother, Son and Daughter in close relationship with better
sportsmanship. To acquaint the younger generation with the handling
of mechanical devices, co-ordination, alertness, and ability to handle
motor-driven vehicles. To impress the younger generation with the
idea of fairness, generosity and a sense of responsibility without envy of
others.
